VFW is seeking donations to help the Cavalry Rough Rider Squadron
VFW Post 5376 is looking for donations to help the 1-108th Cavalry Rough Rider Squadron with their Silk and Saber Ball.
“Military units are not allowed to fundraise for these activities so the burden of the cost often falls on the soldiers that choose to participate and the leaders of the organization,” said the VFW on its Facebook page.
At their December meeting, Post 5376 voted to help the Rough Riders by gathering donations and raffle items. Donations to the VFW are tax deductible, and will all go to help the Rough Rider Squadron pay for their biennial ball this February.
The VFW is mostly asking for items to raffle off at the event. These items include:
TVs/electronics
Tools such as power tools, tool sets, tool boxes, etc. Certificates for redemption at a registered firearms
dealer — please do not bring actual firearms to the Post for raffle
♦ Furniture and certificates as well, if possible
♦ Gift cards
♦ Coolers such as Yeti brand or similar items
♦ Trips or hotel stay certificates
The VFW will also accept cash donations. Military balls can exceed $20,000 in cost when factoring in food, decorations, and a venue suitable for 400 or more attendees.
Post Commander John Brown asks that anyone interested in donating or needing more information reach out via email at vfw5376@ gmail.com.
The event is open to all Rough Riders, past and present. Anyone interested in attending should reach out to Post Commander Brown via email.
Due to Department of Defense operational security measures, the specific date, time and location of military events is information limited to participants only.
