New softball coach at Gordon Central

Kendra Dabdoub will take over the struggling Lady Warriors program

- From staff reports

The Gordon Central softball team now has a new person running the program.

And their top priority going in will be to find a way to jump start a team that didn’t win a game last year.

Kendra Dabdoub, who was an assistant coach for GC last fall, is the new lady in charge after being recently named to the position, replacing Morgan McKnight after McKnight, who was expecting a child this month, had the job for three years.

Dabdoub, who is originally from Kennesaw, played high school softball at North Cobb, where she was a graduate. She played college softball at Wesleyan University and later finished her college education at Kennesaw State University.

Dabdoub has over 20 years experience with the game, both as a player and a coach. When she isn’t coaching or teaching, she is said to have a passion for powerlifting and enjoys working out and playing the fast-growing sport of pickleball.

In a statement on Facebook, McKnight said she has enjoyed her time at Gordon Central.

“It has truly been a blessing to be the head softball coach at Gordon Central for the last three years and I am leaving with so much gratitude for my past and current players, coaches and colleagues. I have been able to grow in many ways because of the opportunities that Gordon Central has given to me. The decision has not been easy to make, and it took many days of praying for clarity to realize that my priorities will need to shift as I take on my new role as a mother in April.

“I will be leaving the program knowing that it will be in great hands as coach Dabdoub takes over. I had the pleasure of working alongside her last season. She is hard-working, extremely knowledgeable and respectful and will create a positive environment.

“Thank you Warrior Nation, for the support you have given me over the years. I look forward to seeing Coach Dabdoub leaad the Gordon Central Lady Warriors next season,” McKnight wrote.

Dabdoub being the new head softball coach means that this summer when the 2023-24 school calendar officially starts turning in August, the three fall sports will all have new or relatively new coaches.

Besides Dabdoub being new in her position, the football program has a new man in charge in former Fort Collins head coach Lanny Gregory and the volleyball team head coach Tori Wells will be the veteran, being her second year on the job.

Coach Dabdoub’s husband, Ismail, teaches and coaches at Cass High School.
