Seventh-day Adventist Church to host violinist Jaime Jorge

Cuban violinist Jaime Jorge will present an evening concert Saturday, May 6, at 7 p.m., at the Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1411 Rome Road.

Jorge began playing the violin at age five. Born and raised in Communist Cuba, he was offered the opportunit­y to study in Moscow with some of the greatest musicians of our time — if he and his family would renounce their belief in God.

They refused. When Jaime was ten, miraculous­ly his family was able to leave the country. In the United States he received a Christian education and took violin lessons with the eminent violinist and teacher, Cyrus Forough. But Jorge also dreamed of being a missionary doctor, and in 1994 he entered the University of Illinois School of Medicine. Two years later, he left medical school, feeling God’s call to full-time music ministry.

Since then, Jorge has traveled over six million air miles and given concerts on six continents and in more than 80 countries. He has recorded and released 18 albums and shares both

Part of the love offering collected at the concert will benefit the Calhoun Pathfinder Club (similar to Scouts) in their goal of attending an Internatio­nal Pathfinder Camporee in Gillette, Wyoming, in 2024.
