Calhoun Recreation Department will host its 5th annual Miracle Run Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m., a 2.5-mile fun run beginning at Black and Yellow Park off McDaniel Station Road. Registration is open at calhounrec.com online or in person the day of the race with a $20 fee that includes a T-shirt. 50% of registration goes towards the agency of your choice, and also benefits the Winner’s Club and Camp New Adventure.
United Way of Gordon County will host its annual Casino Night fundraiser Saturday, March 16, at Calhoun Elks Lodge, 143 Craigtown Road, ZLWK SRNHU FUDSV URXOHWWH EODFNMDFN and more. New Town Baptist Church, 897 Newtown Church Road, will host its free annual Wild Game Supper from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with special guests Chris McDaniel (formerly of Confederate Railroad), and outdoorsman and minister Stacy Hensley.
West Union Baptist Church, 1560 Everett Springs Road, will host its annual Wild Game Dinner Saturday, March 16, with doors open at 4, dinner at 5 p.m., and guest speaker at 6. Prize drawings to follow speaker.
Calhoun VFW Post 5376, 406 W. Line St., will host a St. Patrick’s Dinner Saturday, March 16, from 5 to 9 p.m., with live music, food, and drinks. Proceeds help support the post mission to help local military families and veterans.
Gordon County Parks and Recreation will hold its fourth annual Daddy Daughter Dance Saturday, March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sonoraville Reg. Gym. Admission is free with pizza and refreshments. Call 706-602-4435 to RSVP.
The National Weather Service and Gordon County Emergency Management Agency will host a free, public Skywarn Storm Spotter Training Tuesday, March 21, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Gordon County Fire Department Headquarters, 218 Public Safety Drive. Topics will include storm spotting, thunderstorm basics, basic radar interpretation, severe weather identification, reporting to NWS, and safety tips. Register at weather.gov/ffc/skywarnsched online.
Gordon County Chamber of Commerce will host a Booster Breakfast Friday, March 22, from 7:30 to 9 a.m., at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, 1151 Highway 53 Spur.
Sonoraville High School will host its annual Phoenix & Fenders Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at $25 per vehicle, and free attendance for guests.
Samantha Lusk and Associates Realty, 208 N. River St., will host a free Eggstravaganza Event Saturday, March 23, from 2 to 4 p.m., with free Easter bunny photos, and free Easter bags (while supplies last). The event will be collecting pet food, toys and blankets for local shelters.
Living Waters Ministries Church, 5730 Fairmount Highway, will host a gospel singing benefit Saturday, March 23, from noon to 6 p.m., with a silent auction, gospel singing, and $7 hot dog plates with chips, baked beans, chili, potato salad, coleslaw, and dessert.
The annual Georgia String Band Festival will be held Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, with an opening performance by Hubby Jenkins at the Harris Arts Center, 212 S. Wall St., at 7 p.m. Friday with $25 general admission, and doors opening at noon for registration on Saturday with $10 general admission at the door and competitions beginning at 1 p.m.
