City approves water maintenanc­e building

A pair of purchases for City of Calhoun Utilities were approved by the City Council this week, including a new Water Constructi­on

Maintenanc­e Building.

The $627,570 constructi­on will be completed by Calhoun-based Everts Constructi­on at a location off West Line Street.

Also approved was a $5,699 trailer from Temple Trailer Sales for Water Constructi­on, with the trading in of old out-of-service trailers at a $3,000 credit.

Several public hearings were also held Monday night.

Annexation and zoning requests by First Family Group LLC for 1.56 acres at 200 Union Grove Road were each approved for the building of a convenienc­e store with retail. The zoning change will be from Industrial-G to Commercial C-2.

A pair of annexation and zoning requests by Felipe Paez Martinez were also approved for two 0.341-acre parcels on Circle Drive to build private homes.

A sign variance request by Patrick Silvia for Exchange Apartments, 415 Curtis Parkway was approved from eight up to 34-square feet.

All annexation and zoning requests came before the council with recommenda­tions to approve from the Zoning Advisory Board.

A pair of beer, wine and liquor package license requests were approved — one for Dilip Patel and Calhoun Liquor, 920 N. Wall St.; and the other for Mubashar Ali and Food Mart and Tobacco, 1402 Highway 41.

Finally, a temporary outdoor special event alcohol permit was approved for Wall Street Catering and Calhoun Coffee Company for the upcoming BBQ, Boogie, and Blues event on April 26 and April 27.

The next scheduled meeting of the council is set for Monday, March 25, at 7 p.m., at the Depot, 109 S. King St. All meetings are open to the public.
