HAMILTON HEALTH CARE
and clinical support staff to work collaboratively to provide state-of-the-art care in a healing, nurturing environment. With HMC connected directly to the institute, in-patient care is enhanced by ease of patient transport.
PCI includes: board-certified medical oncologists; radiation oncologists and surgeons; state-of-the-art radiation therapies, including the Varian® TrueBeam linear accelerator and 4-D CT Simulator; customized treatment plans; genetic testing and counseling; 3D mammography and ultrasound imaging (with recently expanded evening options for mammography); private and semi-private infusion rooms; medical nutrition by a registered dietitian; a bistro with Starbucks coffee, smoothies and light refreshments; and patient navigation and oncology social work services. PCI patients also have the ability to participate in various clinical trials through PCI’s relationship with the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
Patients identified as high-risk are given immediate access to a certified genetic counselor through tele-genetics. As part of the program, patients are followed in a high-risk genetics clinic at PCI and receive additional needed services such as annual breast MRI screening or other imaging and testing when appropriate.
RESIDENCY PROGRAM
HMC began a residency program in the summer of 2020 and shortly after introduced the Hamilton Internal Medicine Clinic, which expanded Hamilton’s teaching hospital into an outpatient setting. Hamilton’s family medicine residency program began in 2021, which expanded the outpatient teaching setting into Chatsworth.
“Hamilton is a teaching hospital,” said Jeff Myers, president and CEO. “In teaching physician residents, you keep progressing in your practice. We also have the opportunity to get to know the residents and potentially recruit them down the road.”
Additionally, Hamilton has been partnering with medical schools and has had almost 40 medical students rotating in the system during the past year. Medical school partnerships include Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lincoln Memorial University and various other
medical schools.
The focus for Hamilton’s physician resident training is on providing unsurpassed service, with an emphasis on safety and quality outcomes. Residents have opportunities to care for patients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds with an emphasis on caring for those who are medically underserved. Hamilton’s training program features a learning environment that fosters leadership, ingenuity and creative solutions to complex health problems.
Hamilton’s initial institutional accreditation was obtained from the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education in July 2018. The Internal Medicine Program received initial ACGME accreditation in April of 2019, and the Family Medicine Program received initial ACGME accreditation in July of 2020.
Both residency programs have since been approved for continuing accreditation status by ACGME this past year. Hamilton residencies have become highly sought after by new physician residents with nearly 6,000 applications from across the globe for this next incoming class. Hamilton’s Family Medicine Residency will host its first graduating class this June.
In addition to time at HMC, each resident obtains training in either HMC’s internal medicine clinic, near the hospital, or at the family medicine clinic located at Murray Campus in Chatsworth. Services provided at the clinic include complete physical examinations, diabetes management, hypertension (high blood pressure) treatment and minor surgical procedures.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
With news of hospital and health system mergers across the country, including the north Georgia/southern Tennessee region, Hamilton is one of the few remaining independent health systems with its leadership and Boards of Trustees local to the region it serves so that when planning for, consulting with, and deciding on future developments, it is done with the unique needs of the region front and center at all times. We serve with compassion, and at all times, we are committed to our pledge: Excellence. Every Person. Every Time.
