Calhoun summer camps registrati­on underway

Registrati­on is currently underway for all the 2024 summer sports camps that will be put on by Calhoun Community Education over the next couple of months at the high school.

Starting with the Calhoun football camp on Monday, June 3, and running all the way until the tennis camp begins on Monday, July 22, the camps for youngsters in the county will run weekly and parents who are interested in having their son or daughter participat­ing in any or all of them are urged to sign them up now.

The first two camps will take place the first week of June with the Football and Cheerleadi­ng clinics, which both begin on Monday, June 3 and run through Thursday, June 6. The football camp will take place on the football field and the cheerleadi­ng sessions will be held at Calhoun High School’s The Hive and the auxiliary gym.

The football camp is for boys ages 5-13 and will cost $65 and run from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day. The cheerleadi­ng camp is for girls ages 4-13 and lasts from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. all four days and will also cost $65.

The basketball camps are set for the next week,

starting June 10 and running through Thursday, June 13 at the CHS gym and in the auxiliary gym. The camps are for kids between the ages of 5-13 and costs $65 for each and goes from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

The third week of June will see three clinics taking place at the same time with baseball, softball, and the Twirl-O-Whirl camps all scheduled for June 1720 at the high school.

The Calhoun baseball camp will be held each of those days from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the baseball field while the softball camp will run from 8:30 a.m.11:30 a.m. each of those four days. The cost of each camp is $65 and the baseball camp is for boys ages 5-13 with the softball clinic for girls ages 5-13.

The Twirl-O-Whirl camp will be held at the Calhoun High School gym on those four days from 8:30 a.m.11:30 a.m. each morning. It is for girls who are ages four to 13.

The last week of month of June will see two more spots tale the spotlight in the form of wrestling and volleyball with the volleyball class cut into two different parts.

The wrestling camp lasts from Monday, June 24 and lasts through Thursday, June 27. It will be held in the Calhoun HS wrestling room for boys ages 5-13 and costs $65.

The volleyball camp is also set to held on those same days at the high school, but will be held under a different set of guidelines. For all the girls between the ages of eight and 10, the cost is $35 with camp lasting each day from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. And for the older girls, ages 11 to 13, the camp will run from 9 a.m. until high noon all four days and the cost is $65.

Everyone then takes a week off for the Independen­ce Holiday and the GHSA dead week before camps resume in July.

On Monday, July 8, the CHS soccer camp will begin and it is also split in two different groups, which goes for two different ages. The soccer camp will also likely involve the summer’s youngest campers.

The camp goes through Thursday, July 11 at the soccer/track field with the young ones between the ages of 3-5 going from 9 a.m.10:30 a.m. before the older campers between the ages of 6-13 take over the field. The older players’ workouts will last from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. The cost for each camp is $35.

The final camp of the summer is set for two weeks later with the Calhoun tennis camp to begin Monday, July 22, (not long before school starts) at the Calhoun Tennis Center at the Calhoun Rec Department. The camp is open for boys and girls ages 5-13 and run through Thursday, July 25 to wrap things up with school still out. The cost is $65 for each boy and girl that participat­es.
