BLACKSTONE VALLEY MEMORIES

- — By Bill Muholland

1959Big Bob Rouleau just about stole the whole show for Sacred Heart Academy as the 6-foot-4 senior scored 37 points and controlled both boards in pacing the Beavers to a 53-48 Class B victory over Deering. Rouleau now has totaled 269 points in 11 games this season, eight of which SHA has won. Leo Heroux, second high scorer in the Valley, was held to only two points as was Ed Heroux.

1969Pawtucket West was defeated 57-38 by Cranston West in an Interscholastic League swimming meet despite another outstanding performance by Barry McCoy. McCoy set a school and Cranston West pool record of 1:54.6 in the 200-yard freestyle event, clipping two seconds off the old mark of 1:56.6 while also tying the West and pool record of 57.3 in the 100 butterfly which he set last year. Joe Brassard was also a double winner for the Rangers taking the 160 individual medley (1:58.3) and 100 backstroke (1:08.3).

1979There are six talented skaters who are waging a torrid race for scoring honors among Blackstone Valley schoolboy hockey players as the Interscholastic League season moves into the second half with Lincoln’s Joe Loiselle leading the pack with 26 points on 16 goals and 10 assists. Rounding out the top six scorers are Tolman’s Tom Lamoreux with 14-11-25, Mike Benjamin of Lincoln with 8-1624, Tolman’s Scott Marracco with 8-15-23 Tom Vecoli of Shea with 10-12-22 and still another Tiger, Marc Feeley, with 8-14-22.
