Lincoln touts road repaving, projects
LINCOLN – Town Administrator T. Joseph Almond announced earlier this week a list of capital projects and road improvements that the town has been able to implement over the past year.
“Since the inception of the town’s Capital Development Plan in 2008 and the start of the roadway improvement plan in 2010, the town has invested over twenty-four million dollars in capital improvements,” he said in a statement. “Currently, approximately six million dollars has been invested to repave 34 roads and another eight partial roadways, and complete five major sidewalk and curbing projects.”
Among this year’s projects were overhauls of Berkshire Drive and Ledge Road in Albion – including repaving, curbs, sidewalks and drains.
It also included the repaving of High Ridge Drive in Albion, Ascension, Brook, Church, and
Darlington Streets in Manville, Cedar path, Maple Avenue, along with Paddock, Rocky Cliff, and Southwick Drives in Lime Rock.
In addition to road construction, this past year capital investments also included the completion of the Albion Park pavilion, Ferguson Field and bleachers at the High School, baseball dugouts at Saylesville park, Butterfly dam and walkway bridge, Jergensen property open space purchase, school safety study, various school renovations, mobile data terminals for all police vehicles, conversion of town hall to LED lighting, a new street sweeper, expanded parking at the Senior Center, and a new parking lot and roof for the library.
Almond said that as part of the capital planning process, funding was made available over the past seven years by restricting Twin River gaming proceeds, annual budget surpluses, and the retirement savings of past bond indebtedness.
He said the projects have had no fiscal impact on the annual tax levy and will help stabilize taxes, secure excellent bond ratings, and preserve property values for future years.
“I would like to thank all the members of the Capital Development committee, Budget Board, Town Council, municipal and school department heads, for making capital investment in our community a priority. Responsible fiscal management along with diligent capital planning and investment will continue to benefit all residents and taxpayers alike,” Almond said.
