P-Bruins dropped in OT by Portland, 2-1

-

PROVIDENCE — The PBruins fell to the Pirates in a 2-1 overtime loss, despite outshooting Portland 46-32. The home win streak dies at 10, but the home point streak extends to 11.

It was scoreless after the first 20 minutes, but the PBruins came away with multiple quality scoring chances and outshooting the Pirates 13-9.

The Pirates got on the board 7:51 into the second period when Regner capitalized on the power play. The P-Bruins had a chance to retaliate when Olsen was issued a tripping minor, but the #1 power play unit in the AHL looked uncharacteristically sloppy.

Colton Hargrove netted the equalizer early in the third. Seth Griffith possessed the puck in the corner during a scrum and passed to Hargrove in the slot who one timed it past Brittain. The rest of the third period was spent mostly in the P-Bruins offensive zone and despite outshooting the Pirates 14-9, regulation ended knotted up at 1-1.

The P-Bruins had a goal waved off midway through the 5 minutes 3v3 overtime period and continued to fire away at Brittain. Malcolm Subban made multiple key stops including denying Portland of a breakaway goal. But puck luck was not on the side of Providence tonight, as Rob Schremp of the Pirates potted the game winner with just 0:40 left on the clock.

The P-Bruins are back home at the Dunk tomorrow January 18th against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 3:05pm.
