Bibeault is Rhody-bound
Cumberland allstater to play for Rhode Island
The second NCAA signing period for 2015-16 begins Wednesday with several area athletes expected to ink a National Letter of Intent.
On the football front, Cumberland High senior Andre Bibeault is on his way to the University of Rhode Island. Listed as 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds on MaxPreps.com, Bibeault paid an offi- cial visit to the Kingston campus this past weekend. The Rams, who according to CHS head coach Josh Lima spent months recruiting Bibeault, will ask Bibeault to play defensive end.
The opportunity to sign a pretty important document also awaits 2015 St. Raphael graduate Alfred Dorbor, who as a senior earned Rhode Island Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year.
Dorbor opted to do a post-graduate year at New Jersey’s Blair Academy with the firm goal of producing a strong season that would help to elevate his recruiting profile.
Blair head coach Jim Stone confirmed that Dorbor is expected to sign a LOI, possibly as early as Wednesday. Indications point to the 5-foot-10, 200pound tailback/cornerback taking his talents to Bryant University.
Dorbor enjoyed several productive games this past fall. In one game, he took a kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown and also rushed for 101 yards. In another contest, he returned an interception 57 yards for a score and picked up 116 yards on the ground.
“He had a great year for us … just a tremendous worker in practice and playing games at a high level,” said Stone when reached Tuesday. “He’s a great kid in the community and doing well in the classroom. Basically everything we want from someone who comes to do a post-graduate year. I’m very happy that things are going to work out for him.”
Another local connection to college football’s signing day is former Lincoln High standout Thaddeus Moss. A four-star tight end recruit and the son of former New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, the younger Moss plans to haul in passes at N.C. State. Moss played his sophomore season with the Lions in 2013 before relocating to a high school in Charlotte, N.C.
Speaking of Lincoln, native son Jack Bacon will be signing his LOI to accept an athletic scholarship to play men’s soccer at Boston College. A ceremony will take place Wednesday, February 10 at Connecticut’s Pomfret School.
A goalkeeper, Bacon formerly played at Lincoln High School prior to transferring to Pomfret in the fall of 2014. Bacon has earned numerous individual accolades in his two years at Pomfret, including being named to the 2015 Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association (CSCA) All-State Team.
In addition, Bacon was selected to play on the U.S. Youth Soccer U-17 Select Team in the 2014 Future Champions Cup tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa. Also of note, Bacon’s NEFC Elite U-18 premier club team won the New England NPL Premier League championship in 2015. While at Lincoln High School, he was a three–time All-Division selection by the R.I. Soccer Coaches Association.
The signing period for football closes on April 1 while men’s and women’s soccer players have until August 1. The third and final signing period for 2015-16 is scheduled to open on April 13.
