Following Gonsalves’ opening goal, senior Tea Williams collected a rebound and shoved it into the net to give the Storm a 2-0 lead heading into the second period. The next two Storm goals, in the second and third periods, were both scored by Hagopian, who showed off some nifty stick handling to deflect two pucks into net.

“We have a very young team, and we've been working very hard to get everybody on board,” said Cannon of his 10 freshman skaters. “The young ones are putting in the effort.”

With the Storm steadfastly camped out in the Burrillville zone, there was little chance for a comeback by the Broncos. Coach Lacey certainly saw effort from her team, but without senior captain Angela Cardone, the team struggled with puck control in the defensive end.

“Our injuries, two of our leading goalscorers are out right now,” lamented Lacey. “Tonight we had three defense. Overall, the effort was there tonight. It's difficult when you have your captain and leading goal-scorer out. That was damaging to the team. I thought they skated hard and did what they could. We just didn't get enough shots.”

There is a major gulf between the girls hockey teams in Rhode Island right now, with four teams having earned seven or more wins so far this season and four teams with four or less wins to their name. The Storm are right in the mix of the top four teams, alongside the Barrington and Toll Gate co-ops, and La Salle.
