Dobrenz hat trick leads Cumberland

WOONSOCKET – Cumberland forward Jake Dobrenz scored a goal in each period Saturday night to lead the Clippers to a 5-2 Division I Eccleston victory over Barrington at Adelard Arena.

Dobrenz scored his first goal with 21 seconds left in the opening period and then he added a short-handed effort with just two seconds left in the second period. The Eagles grabbed a goal back on Mike Grieve's short-handed effort, but Jake Salisbury restored the two-goal lead with a power-play goal 56 seconds later.

After Derek Bross increased the lead to three, Dobrenz took a pass from Jimmy Cabral and finished off his hat trick at 8:20 of the final period. Ben Brakenwage­n added a pair of assists for the winners.

Cumberland (7-5 Division I Eccleston) has now won three straight contests headed into Friday’s game with North Kingstown at Brad Boss Arena

Simpson scores four

WOONSOCKET— Brian Simpson scored four and redhot junior forward Joe Sanchioni scored a pair of goals to lead the Mount St. Charles hockey team to an 82 victory over visiting Hamden, Conn. Saturday night at Adelard Arena.

Sanchioni, who has now scored in three straight games, needed just 4:23 of the opening period to open the scoring and Tyler Rudek added a goal at 5:03.

Defenseman Jack Boisvert received a pass from freshman blue- liner Bradey Farrell at 12:10 of the opening period to register the game-winning goal. Hamden’s Zach Owens and Simpson delivered specialtea­ms goals to finish off the scoring in the period.

Hamden’s Jake Blackwell scored 6:28 into the second period, but then an avalanche of Simpson goals crushed the visitors. Simpson scored on a pass from James Belisle at 8:30 and then he scored two more goals in the final period. Dan Allen finished with three assists, while James Belisle added a pair of assists.

Mount St. Charles (9-5 Division I Cimini) has now won four straight games headed into Tuesday’s non-league contest at Franklin.
