Pawtucket Parks & Rec announces summer tennis programs

PAWTUCKET — The Pawtucket Parks & Recreation Division will again be conducting various tennis programs at the Mike Kenny tennis courts in Slater Park this summer.

Adult league registrations are currently being accepted until Friday, May 27. The men’s doubles league will play on Monday nights, starting June 6, and the men’s singles league will start on Wednesday, June 8. The women’s doubles league will play on Tuesday nights, starting June 7, with the singles league beginning on Thursday, June 9.

The cost for each adult league is $40 for Pawtucket residents and $50 for non-residents. All participants must be 18 years of age or older. All leagues will start at 6 p.m. on their respective days and continue for 10 weeks.

Limited openings are also available for the adult tennis clinics that will take place on Saturday mornings, starting on June 11, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Participants have the option to take part in a sixweek program or individual morning sessions. The clinic is geared toward players ages 18 and over who are interested in learning the game of tennis or brushing up on their current skills.

The cost for the six-week program is $75 for Pawtucket residents and $85 for non-residents, and there is an additional option of $15 per individual class.

Adults will also have an opportunity to compete in the 43rd annual Pawtucket Open Tennis Tournament that will take place Aug. 25-28. The divisions will include Men’s Singles 3.0, Singles 4.0, Men’s Senior 50+, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles, and Women’s Doubles.

Registration forms and further details will be available at a later date, and anyone interested is asked to “like” the Slater Park Tennis Facebook page to learn about all Pawtucket Parks & Recreation tennis programs.

The Parks & Recreation Division will also begin accepting registrations for the Slater Park Youth Tennis Camp on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Slater Park office, and instructors will be on hand to address questions and give more information.

Registrations will be accepted after this date at the Slater Park office Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the camp will tentatively start on Monday, June 27, and continue through Wednesday, Aug. 10.

The camp includes instructional- level lessons, which take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and advanced lessons are available for those ages 10- 18 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The lesson times will vary depending on age.

The cost for six weeks of lessons is $ 50 for Pawtucket residents and $75 for non-residents. A children’s league for ages 14- 18 is optional, and the fee is $40 per league.

All participants of the various programs are asked to have a can of tennis balls on hand. League and clinic applications, in addition to tennis camp details, are available online at www. pawtucketri.com or at the Slater Park office.
