Valley Tourism Council announces railway tours

WOONSOCKET — The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council recently announced the schedule for its annual slate of public train excursions. These themed rail tours offer great family fun experience­s and ideal for visitors exploring the sights of the new Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park.

Because of the popularity of these rail excursions, people are strongly recommende­d to purchase tickets in advance. Here are this year’s tours: • American Girl Train Ride, Saturday, Sept. 17, leaving from Blackstone Valley Train Depot, Woonsocket. Trips last one hour and are scheduled for 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. The trip includes a 60-minute round-trip train excursion, a gift bag with official American Girl keepsakes and souvenirs for all children, signature sweet treats and pink lemonade, and photo opportunit­ies in front of exclusive American Girl and Blackstone Valley 3D scenes and backdrops.

• Train Excursion through the Blackstone Valley to Putnam, Conn., Saturday, Oct. 22, leaving from Blackstone Valley Train Depot, Woonsocket. Train leaves at 9 a.m. and arrives back in Woonsocket by 4:30 p.m. The Putnam Pumpkin Festival features antique shopping, dining, music, arts and crafts, Farmer’s Market, Pumpkin Festival, children’s activities, and Fall Bazaar at the Putnam Congregati­onal Church. • Polar Express train trips, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Nov. 18 to Dec. 23, leave from Blackstone Valley Train Depot, Woonsocket. Trip includes a 90minute train excursion with a reading of “The Polar Express,” sing- alongs, hot chocolate and cookies, games, and a special visit from Santa Claus, where he personally delivers the first gift of Christmas to each child. Arrive an hour before train departure to see our beautifull­y decorated historic train depot and pose with the Conductor and chefs in front of custom-made special Polar Express backdrops. There is a special kids area for coloring and writing a letter to Santa. Visit the official Polar Express Gift Shop, which features a wide array of the latest Polar Express items.
