School dept. hires new director of technology

WOONSOCKET – The School Committee has named a new Chief Technology Officer for the Education Department after approving School Superinten­dent Patrick McGee’s recommenda­tion of Alfred Notarianni, a past acting Technology Coordinato­r for North Smithfield schools and Director of Technology for Tiverton schools, at its June 29 meeting.

Notarianni will replace Alan Graham who left the post at the end of June.

“Mr. Notarianni brings to the Chief Technology Officer position a skill set to help empower and lead positive district change, implement technology programs that accelerate children success, and provide the Woonsocket Education Department with a vision for instructio­nal technology,” McGee said of the new director in a statement.

Notarianni has also served as Technology E-Rate Consultant for North Smithfield and as District Technology Coordinato­r in the Preston Public Schools, McGee said.

“As Director of Technology, Mr. Notarianni has provided a district strategic technology vision through the developmen­t of a District Technology Plan,” McGee said of the new appointee. “Mr. Notarianni’s duties as Director of Technology have included the following: ensuring district technology readiness for online state assessment­s-- including PARCC; overseeing security and communicat­ion systems; overseeing maintenanc­e, daily monitoring, and updates of the

District Informatio­n System; project manager for the Wireless Classroom Initiative Grant Phases I and II; coordinate­d the implementa­tion of Project Lead the Way at Tiverton high school and middle school; and arranged support digital-based profession­al developmen­t for staff,” McGee said.

Notarianni received a bach- elor of science degree in Computer Informatio­n Systems from Bryant University in 2002, according to McGee.

“The Woonsocket Education Department is very excited to have Mr. Alfred Notarianni join what is an exceptiona­l team of administra­tors as Chief Technology Officer,” McGee said. Notarianni, who has visited the department since his appointmen­t, will begin in his new post on July 19.
