Tolman beats Woonsocket in Division III Northmen defeat Chariho

PAWTUCKET – Tolman High swept the doubles portion of its Division III/Central-B showdown with Woonsocket on Thursday and left Slater Park’s Mike Kenny Courts with a demonstrat­ive 6-1 victory.

The duets of Melanie Lopez-Jahniya Morris, Jessica Potter-Sarah Colson and Jailene Sequin-Halimatou Diallo all registered straight-set wins to help the Tigers improve to 9-4 in league action.

As for singles’ play, seniors Maggy Letourneau and Brittney Baptista produced rather easy, straight-set verdicts at Nos. 1 and 2, though classmate Hope Caliri sustained a marathon 4-6, 6-4, 119 (super-tiebreaker) loss to Holly Letourneau at No. 3.

Junior Abbi LaPierre neverthele­ss avenged that with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fourth spot.

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Thanks to a stellar singles sweep, North Smithfield High rolled to a 5-2 Division II/Suburban B triumph over Chariho Regional on Thursday.

The top three singles players – Hailey Raskob, Brianna Boudreau and Alexis LaBelle – provided straight-set wins, while Julia Kasanovich had to battle to record a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 decision over Rayna Yee at No. 4.

The premier duet of Alyana Kozlik and Piper LaBarre had an easy time disposing of Mia DiBiasio and Olivia Guevremont, 6-1, 6-1, while the next two tandems dropped tough matches.

Still, the Northmen moved to 10-4 in league play, while the Chargers fell to 310.
