1956Coach Mike Pappas’ Pawtucket Boys Club basketball team, AAU sectional champions in 1954 and 1955, will be trying to make it three in row this weekend which would represent the first such triumphs for Pawtucket since 1936. Pappas reached into his extensive memory to name the players on the ’36 team. “The lineup started Hank Soar, Wilson Farley, Eddie Anderson, Joe Salicki and Joe Hardy along with Herbie Allen, Turk Nobie, John Kolek and Morris Fabricant.”

Jackie Waycott won the R. I. DeMolay Basketball League scoring championsh­ip by hooping 60 points in his final game as the Pawtucket Chapter trounced Narraganse­tt Chapter of Warwick 87-53. Waycott, who caged 67 points in a game last week, finished the season with 353 points in 12 games for a 29.4 average. John Symms of Woonsocket Chapter was second with 349 points and a 29.1 mark.

19661976Co­ach Rollie Pariseau’s Tolman sextet made it look easy before some 600 fans dominating Johnston 4-1 to take a one-game lead in the best-of-three series for the Suburban B Division hockey championsh­ip. Steve Tanguay set up Tommy McGarry on a breakaway and when his shot was stopped, Tanguay, trailing the play, was on the spot to put home the game’s first goal. Glenn Elliott, Bob Savoie and McGarry had the other Tiger goals, while netminder Mike Webb turned away 18 of the 19 Panther shots on goal.
