Computer glitch temporarily freezes bank deposits
WOONSOCKET – A glitch at a company that processes transactions for Citizens Bank and other financial institutions caused delays in the posting of direct deposits and other transactions to customers’ accounts on Friday.
Several people had contacted The Call and The Times saying they didn’t see their direct deposits in their accounts Friday morning.
The Providence-based bank issued a statement just after 9 o’clock Friday morning, saying: “Due to a vendor processing issue affecting multiple financial institutions, customers are seeing a delay in transactions posting to their accounts. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we work with our vendor to resolve this issue.”
The problem was resolved shortly before 11 o’clock, which was followed by a second statement from the bank, which said:
“Earlier today customers experienced a delay in transactions posting to their accounts due to a processing issue. As of 10:40 this morning, all customer accounts are current. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we worked through this issue, and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. No fees will be incurred due to this issue.”
Citizens Bank operates in 11 states, including Rhode Island. According to its website, the bank has approximately 3,200 ATMs and approximately 1,200 branches in 11 states in the New England, MidAtlantic and Midwest regions. Follow Joseph Fitzgerald on Twitter @jofitz7
