1966Saint Raphael Academy’s Bob Brooks, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound forward and Valley scoring champ for the second year in a row with a 19.90 average, is the lone repeater and only unanimous selection on the Pawtucket Times All-Blackstone Valley Basketball First Team. Sacred Heart Academy has two representatives on the First Team in Jimmy Such, a 5-11, 152-pound senior who led the Beavers in scoring with a 15.7 mark, and his brother, Paul, a 5-10, 140-pound junior who scored at a 14.7 pace and led SHA in scoring in all four state playoff games. The other first teamers are John Wilson of Central Falls, a 6-2, 154-pound senior who hit consistently from the corners and wound up with 19.89 ppg, a shade below Brooks, and Tolman’s Ron Hoyt, a 5-10, 150-pound senior who is an excellent passer and averaged 17.6 ppg.

1986Bishop Feehan has three representatives on The Evening Times All-Area Hockey Team led by center Kevin Culhane who successfully defended his 1985 scoring crown by piling up 32 goals and 39 assists. The other Shamrocks are Andy Jones, a 5-10, 163-pound mobile defenseman who skates well and handles the puck with skill, and goalie John Berteletti, the area’s best netminder who compiled a 2.38 goals against average. Lincoln also has three players on the 12-player squad in defenseman Ray Cournoyer and Ken Wood, both repeaters from the 1985 team, and Dan Fawcett, a pure scorer who finished second to Culhane with 33 goals and 22 assists.

1996Two Manfredo’s Gym boxers recently captured titles at the New England Silver Mittens Championships. Jason Estrada, a 144-pounder who took the 1995 crown and is ranked fifth nationally, moved up in weight, but it didn’t affect him as he took this season’s 160-pound title. Matt Godfrey, the 1995 National Silver Gloves champion at 147 pounds, won the same weight at this year’s New England Silver Mittens tourney.
