WOONSOCKET – On April 4, Mayor Lisa BaldelliHunt joined nearly 5,000 city and county leaders across the country in a day of recognition to highlight the positive impact of AmeriCorps and Senior Corps in the community. Baldelli-Hunt celebrated the Day of Recognition for National Service at a 2 p.m. ceremony in historic Harris Hall.

“National service is a vital resource for our community,” said Mayor Lisa BaldelliHunt. “AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers contribute time and energy to causes that positively impact the people of Woonsocket. I am grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of these citizens, who are helping to make our City a better place to live.”

Nearly 300 AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members serve in Woonsocket, providing support to local residents and organizations such as Riverzedge, NeighborWorks, Connecting for Children & Families, Inc., and The Learning Community. Today’s recognition is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the National Association of Counties, the National League of Cities, and Cities of Service.

“I am proud to be working with the City of Woonsocket as we continue to strengthen communities through national service,” said Kim Mansaray, Acting CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. “County officials and mayors are leaders who get things done. They know first-hand the value of national service in tackling local problems. I commend Mayor BaldelliHunt for working with us to improve lives and strengthen communities through national service.”

As the federal agency for service and volunteering, CNCS annually engages millions of Americans in service at more than 50,000 locations through AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and other programs.
