PAWTUCKET – They’ll be a new varsity baseball head coach in Shea High’s dugout this spring after Dino Campopiano resigned, citing personal reasons.

Shea Athletic Director Kate Corry confirmed that Campopiano stepped down, saying on Thursday, “We’re going to have to do whatever we have to do to keep the team moving forward and have them ready for the season.”

Campopiano declined to speak on the specifics surrounding his resignation. He’s the Dean of Students at Shea and the school’s varsity football head coach. At this time, it’s unclear if he’ll remain as the Raiders’ football head coach.

Campopiano has served as Shea’s baseball coach for the past 20 years. The 2017 Raiders learned of Campopiano’s decision during Thursday’s practice.

Corry confirmed that the search for Campopiano’s replacement could simply be a matter of elevating a current Shea assistant coach to the top spot. The Raiders have three assistant coaches listed on the roster: Henry Coleman, Wayde Labossiere, and James Torres.

“If they’re ready to step up and willing and able … I don’t think I have to appoint anyone other than make it official,” Corry said. “Basically it’s just making sure as we’re two weeks into the season that everything runs smoothly.”

The Raiders compete in D-III. They’re scheduled to open the season on Friday afternoon against Classical at Max Read Field.
