Water photography exhibition on display at Hope Hospice RI
PROVIDENCE — Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island (Hope Hospice RI), the state’s leader in hospice and palliative care since 1976, will highlight the work of Rhode Island artists in its seventh annual display at its 1085 North Main St. headquarters.
Making art accessible through public and private partnerships is just one of the objectives for Public Art Works, a group of professional Rhode Island-based artists. Public Art Works (PAW), began working with Hope Hospice RI toward the end of 2009.
“Working with Hope Hospice RI for the past seven years has given us a tremendous amount of gratification in knowing how appreciated and well received the work of each artist is by staff and the families who visit Hope Hospice RI. We have come to learn the positive impact that art has on emotions, attitudes and beliefs and the contribution it can make to greater health and wellness for the individual,” said Nancy Gaucher-Thomas, a partner in Public Art Works.
“Diana Brennan’s ‘Within Waves’ photo series eloquently captures the natural beauty of the ocean,” said Diana Franchitto, president & CEO of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island. “We are honored to have this new installment in our first-floor gallery of the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center.”
“My Within Waves photograph series immerses the viewer within an intimate view of ocean waves, capturing the play of light and the changing surface of the sea as the salt water moves and flows,” said Brennan. “There are few things I love more than the salt water embrace of the ocean on a summer day. The movement of the tide, the gentle ebb of the current along the coast and the power of a breaker crashing into the shore. The ocean makes us feel infinite and tiny all at once. Interconnected with all the earth and isolated in peace at the same time. I use contemporary photography and my background in environmental science to translate natural stories into serene artwork. My photographic style captures the intricacies of the natural world in a simple and timeless way. My work has contributed to tranquil spaces around the world.”
