Drezek, Ross each win two events

CUMBERLAND – It was Senior Day at Tucker Field on Monday afternoon, and Cumberland High’s soon-to-be graduates collected seven victories within the 18-event program to claim elementary Northern Division verdicts over Burrillville (109-38), Johnston (137-5) and North Providence (140-1).

In the process, the Clippers closed their dual-meet campaign at 9-1.

Senior Abby Drezek led the way with a pair of firsts in the 100-meter high (17.7) and the 300-meter low hurdles (54.7), as did classmate Julianne Ross in the triple jump (33-2) and long jump (16-3 ½); Julia Dempsey in the 3,000 (10:58.1); and Colleen Enestvedt in the 800 (1:04.2).

Enestvedt also anchored the victorious 4 x 400 relay (also consisting of Grace Henson, Olivia Sarmento and Gabby Abramek), which closed in 3:43.1.

“We celebrated our seniors, and they definitely stepped up and showed what they had in them,” noted head coach Vanessa Molloy. “They set the example for the team.”

Fellow senior talent Jaylynne Thomas would have competed, but she apparently broke her nose in a soccer game.

Still, several underclassmen played crucial roles, as sophomore Ali Leboeuf and freshman Abby Free took 1-2 hon- ors in the 100 and 200 dashes; Abramek the top spot in the 400; the junior Henson in the 1,500; frosh Victoria Dedonato in the hammer toss; and sophomore Dayna Jackvony first in the high jump and runner-up honors in the long jump.

The Broncos may have lost to Cumberland, but nevertheless posted two wins over the Cougars (116-15) and Panthers (112-18).

Alexus Yativong claimed the javelin (79-7) and placed second in the discus, while Audriauna Greeno

took the shot put (27-1 ½) and second in the hammer.
