Bernardo leads Tigers

PAWTUCKET – Junior Ethan Bernardo hurled a solid, complete-game four-hitter as Tolman High eked out a 2-1 Division II triumph over Exeter/West Greenwich at Ted McConnon Memorial Field on Tuesday.

To be fair, Scarlet Knights’ starter Keith Lavin pitched well, yielding five hits without a walk and whiffing five during a six-inning stint, but it wasn’t enough.

The Tigers (8-3 league) took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second when senior Tim Greene reached via catcher’s interference and eventually scored on sophomore Justin Klemanchuck’s sacrifice fly, but EWG fought back a frame later to knot it at 1-1.

Tolman clinched it in the sixth when senior captain Peter Microulis singled, advanced to third and recorded the winning run.
