PAWTUCKET — Mother’s Day at McCoy Stadium just got a little more Price-y.

One day after David Price threw a four-inning simulated game at Milwaukee’s Miller Park, the Red Sox, on Wednesday, announced the left-hander will make a rehab start for the Pawtucket Red Sox on Sunday. The PawSox are home for a 1:35 p.m. first pitch against Rochester.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Red Sox manager John Farrell says the goal is to have Price throw 70-75 pitches on Sunday. Price threw just over 60 pitches in his simulated game Tuesday.

Farrell mentioned that Price would need at minimum two minor-league starts before getting activated off the disabled list. In terms of where the second start could take place, the PawSox will be in Buffalo on Friday, May 19. That same night, Double-A Portland will be in Trenton.

An elbow injury that first surfaced in spring training has kept Price from throwing a pitch in a Red Sox uniform this season. The southpaw is in the second year of a sevenyear, $217-million contract with the Red Sox. He went 17- 9 with a 3.99 ERA in 35 starts during 2016.

Price won the American League Cy Young award in 2012. The list of pitchers who have taken the mound for the PawSox with a Cy Young on their résumé includes Roger Clemens, Bret Saberhagen, Dennis Eckersley, and John Smoltz.
