New salon really ‘nails’ the spa experience

If it’s pampering you need, JT Nail Spa in Cumberland can do the job

CUMBERLAND — After several years of owning and operating Perfect Nails at 3400 Mendon Road, Jason and Tina Nguyen have opened a second nail salon two miles down the road, in the Seabra Foods Plaza.

It's called JT Nail Spa, and the foot tubs, sinks and wallmounted television screens are as shiny and new as patrons would want their nails to look.

“They just wanted more of a spa experience,” Kathryn Czabanowski, an employee to whom Tina Nguyen referred questions, said of the decision to add a second location. “I mean, we still do accept walkins, but they wanted more of a 'sit down and relax' type of atmosphere, a higher-end salon.”

Like Perfect Nails has been doing, JT Nails offers manicures, pedicures and waxing, but a new addition is eyelash extensions. Another new feature is the kids room in the back, perhaps one of the pinkest rooms visitors will have seen in awhile.

A fairy is printed on the backrest of each pale-pink,

child-sized pedicure chair. Three-dimensional butterflies of varying colors and sizes flit out of a tree painted on one wall, while hot-air balloons painted with hearts and stars and flowers decorate another.

The wall art extends from the children's room in the back to the waiting area in the front, where the phrase, “It's all fun & games until someone breaks a nail” is painted in a swirly font between nail polish bottles and a geometric pattern.

The Nguyens' nieces did the painting. JT Nails is about three times the size of Perfect Nails, Czabanowski noted.

As she waited for a facial last week, Cumberland resident Amanda Choiniere said she'd been going to Perfect Nails for five or six years and had already been to JT Nails a couple times. This is her new spot, she said, because it's bigger and more relaxing.

Choiniere, whose daughter attends North Cumberland Middle School, coaches the Cumberland Comets travel softball team, which she brought to JT Nails last Saturday.

She said they loved “just being pampered, because these girls are the biggest tomboys around.”

Choiniere is not unique in her praise, with reviewers on Facebook praising JT Nails for its friendly staff, quality pedicures and overall pampering of its customers.

Manicures range from $12 to $33, with 12 options based on the length of time and variety of nail polish. Options include express manicure, regular manicure, organic exfoliating manicure, gel manicure, French gel manicure and more.

Pedicures range from $25 to $60, with various services including a leg and foot mask, hot stone massage, sugar scrub, jelly scrub and hot paraffin wax. The foot soak and scrub varieties include lavender and mint, lemongrass and green tea, mandarin and mango, jasmine coconut, and pitaya dragon fruit.

For kids 10 and under, manicures are $12 and pedicures are $20.

Other services are facials, eyelash extensions and waxing.

The hours for JT Nail Spa are 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (7 p.m. from September through March) Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
