Bellingham High names valedictorian, salutatorian
BELLINGHAM — Bellingham High School Principal Lucas Giguere has announced that Erin Umlauf and Alexander Carr have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Bellingham High School Class of 2017.
Umlauf is the daughter of Kevin and Donna Umlauf of 34 Flagg Drive in Bellingham. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average and has been a member of the National Honor Society since junior year, serving as Senior Class Vice President.
In addition to her academic hon- ors and accomplishments, Umlauf is a standout four-year member of the varsity volleyball program. She is an active member of the community and serves as the School Committee student representative, class treasurer for four years, BHS Student Council member, and artistic director of the BHS Literary Journal.
Since freshman year, Umlauf has demonstrated a strong commitment to bettering the school community and the community at large. Amongst her many volunteer activities, she has coordinated Stop Hunger events, prepared back packs for the homeless in Boston, men- tored and tutored elementary-aged students in Bellingham and beyond, and volunteered at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts.
In the fall, Umlauf will double major in Sociology with a concentration in Human Services and Economics at Emmanuel College as part of their honors program.
Carr is the son of Leslie and Michael Carr of 20 Lizotte Drive in Bellingham. Carr maintains a 4.0 grade point average, and he is a distinguished two-year member of the National Honor Society.
Since freshman year, Carr has been committed to community service projects that have enriched the school community, the greater Bellingham community and the global community. Carr has served his class as vice president and has been a member of the Student Council since freshman year. Carr has been an active member of SLTP, a student leadership training program. In the spring of 2016, Carr participated in Project Peru, where he lived amongst and worked with underprivileged Peruvians. Carr has also been a standout performer in Bellingham High’s soccer, basketball and track programs. He captained both the varsity soccer and cross country teams.
This upcoming fall, Carr will attend Ohio State University and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.
