June 13 1958

Ralph (Hop) Harrington of Pawtucket racked up his second straight victory in taking the 25-lap Class A feature in last night’s stock races at the Seekonk Speedway. Fred Astel of Fall River who was the early leader in the race gave way to Moe Gherzi of New Britain on the fourth lap when Bob Sprague of Mansfield took over on the sixth lap and held the advantage until caught by Harrington on the 23rd lap. Sprague and Fred Luchesi, also of Pawtucket, had given Harrington a terrific battle for 10 laps before Harrington was able to pass them.

1968

Strapping Bob Narcessian of Woonsocket broke his own hammer throw record in the United States Track and Field Federation National Championsh­ip held in Houston, Texas with a heave of 205 feet, five inches. Narcessian, a former NCAA champion from the University of Rhode Island, broke his own record of 190 feet set in last year’s meet. Richard Narcessian, Bob’s brother, and also of Woonsocket placed second after catapultin­g the ball and chain 184 feet, three inches.

1978

Right-hander Chris Reinsant fired a four-hitter, struck out 13 and walked only two as Saint Raphael Academy blanked Rogers 4-0 in a state quarterfin­al playoff tilt at McCoy Stadium. The Saints scored three runs in the fourth inning on Jay Thornhill’s RBI single, Jay D’Angelo’s run-scoring suicide squeeze bunt single and Dave Frechette’s RBI bunt. Junior catcher Steve Paulhus added the fourth SRA run leading off the fifth by smacking his first career home run over the leftfield fence.
