BELLINGHAM — Anne A. (Gariepy) Martel, 94, died peacefully at the Roberts Health Center in North Kingstown, on Friday, July 21, 2017, with family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur J. Martel for 50 years.

Born in Woonsocket on April 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Aram I. and Mary E. (Mulligan) Gariepy and resided in Woonsocket and Bellingham for most of her life.

She was the loving mother of Michael and Lois Martel, Leslie and Steven Foehr, Peter and Cheryl Martel, Donna Martel, and Matthew Martel and Trish Weller. She was the beloved mother of the late Jane E. Martel. She leaves her cherished grandchild­ren Aimee Plouffe, Maureen and Thomas Martel, Andrew and Nicholas Foehr, Kate and Harry Martel, Meghanne Venticinqu­e, Jack and Morgan Davis, Karina Martel, Emma Wright, and Ben Norbrothen. She also leaves her beloved greatgrand­children Sophie and Madelynn Plouffe, Xander Venticinqu­e, Hazel Hall and Flynn Howrigan. She is predecease­d by one brother and five sisters: J. Leo Gariepy, M. Evelyn DesRochers, Eileen Gariepy, Rita E. Hallock, Winifred Minot and Veronica Waynne.

She graduated from Woonsocket High School and the Newport Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as a registered nurse at Landmark (Woonsocket) Hospital for 25 years. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Woonsocket Hospital and the Newport Hospital Alumni Associatio­n. She also did volunteer work with Meals on Wheels. She was very family oriented and enjoyed spending free time with her children, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. She enjoyed trips to casinos, playing cards, and reading.

Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 27, at 9 a.m. from CARTIER’S FUNERAL HOME, 151 South Main St. (Route 126), Bellingham, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, 323 Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Interment will follow at Resurrecti­on Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, July 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of New England, 40 Speen St. Suite 101, Framingham, MA 01701, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
