Five arrested on driving offenses overnight

Five people, including two from Cumberland and one from Attleboro, were arrested for driving under the influence late Thursday night into early this morning, Rhode Island State Police said.

Around 11:05 p.m. Thursday, 24-year-old Dylan J. Cahill of 33 Thomas Leighton Boulevard in Cumberland was arrested after police responded to a report of a one-car accident on Route 146 North near the Admiral Street exit, police said. Cahill was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He also was issued several other motor vehicle violations. Cahill was arraigned before a justice of the peace and released, pending further court action.

Two hours later, another Cumberland man was busted for allegedly driving drunk. Matthew Bellows, 28, of 51 Front St. was arrested around 1:05 a.m. Friday after troopers received a call for a motorist driving erraticall­y in the northbound lanes of Interstate 295, near exit 7 in Smithfield.

Bellows was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs with bloodalcoh­ol content of .131 and .129, state police said. He was arraigned before a justice of

the peace and released, pending further court action.

One hour later, around 2:05 a.m., David Thy, 34, of Attleboro was arrested after a park ranger reported a disabled vehicle at the entrance to Lincoln Woods State Park. Troopers responded and arrested Thy for driving under the influence of liquor or drugs with blood-alcohol content of .159 and .154, police said. He also was cited for several motor vehicle violations. He was arraigned before a justice of the peace and released, pending further court action.

Additional­ly, a Warwick woman was arrested around 1:50 a.m. Friday after troopers stopped her for a motor vehicle violation on East Avenue in Warwick. Amber Farrell, 23, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs and refusal to submit to a chemical test. She also was issued several other motor vehicle violations. She was arraigned before a justice of the peace and released, pending further court action.

Around 2:40 a.m., a Connecticu­t man was spotted allegedly driving 111 mph on Interstate 95. Sterley Delmas, 25, of Norwich, Conn., was arrested after troopers spotted his car on I-95 North. Delmas was arrested after his car exited the highway on Route 3 in Coventry. He was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs; refusal to submit to a chemical test; and reckless driving to elude or flee from a police officer, according to police. He also was issued several other motor vehicle violations. Delmas was held overnight, pending arraignmen­t in Third District Court.
