Cops: Woman arrested with wide array of drugs

-

WOONSOCKET – A city woman was in possession of three different kinds of pharmaceutical drugs when police found her asleep in car parked on Dulude Avenue Monday, police say.

Alicia Marie Mattera, 38, of 39 Sweet Ave., was taken into custody on three counts of possession of a controlled substance shortly after 7 a.m. When police woke her up she told them she’d just worked the third shift and dozed off while waiting for a friend.

The conversation turned to drugs, police say, when they noticed a crack pipe in plain view inside Mattera’s vehicle. She told them she had “needles and pills” in the car, “but nothing on me.”

Police later located a bag in the center console that allegedly contained eight doses of buprenorphine, a drug that’s supposed to be used for therapeutic treatment of opioid addiction; six doses of oxycodone, a potent opioid sold under the brand name Percocet; and four doses of Adderall, a blend of stimulant drugs.

Police also located several unused hypodermic syringes inside an eyeglass case that was in the vehicle.

Mattera was taken into custody after she told police she did not have a doctor’s prescription for any of the drugs found in the vehicle.

She released on bail following an arraignment in Sixth District Court and is due to return for another hearing on Jan. 3, according to the judiciary’s web site.
