BLACKSTONE VALLEY MEMORIES

-

October 20

1962Steve Storin of Tolman and Dick Carr of Cumberland are waging a hot duel in the passing department among Blackstone Valley schoolboy quarterbacks. Storin has more total yardage – 342 – and connected for two touchdowns, while Carr has 320 yards and four TDs. Clipper end Charlie Carr, Dick’s twin brother, and teammate Bob LaFlamme share the pass reception lead with seven catches each. Charlie also leads with 127 yards, while Tolman’s Ron Palagi is next with 101 yards on six receptions.

1982Coach Tony Rainone was without star running back Larry Cooper and fullback George Cardona, but Ernie Martin and Carlos DePina stepped in and handled it well as Central Falls defeated Tiverton 14-6 in Class B action. The Warriors tallied all their points in the first quarter on a Steve Dumas 30-yard fumble recovery jaunt, a four-yard dash by DePina and a two-point PAT aerial from QB Scott Szafranski to Andy Goodhart. The CF defense, anchored by Scott Lachance and Jim Rodrigues at the tackles, linebacker Art Egan and Goodhart at end, played exceptionally well according to Rainone.

1992Steve Houle of Attleboro and Bishop Feehan’s Mike Yurof are tied for top honors with 13 receptions apiece among the Times Area receivers. There is a three-way deadlock for third place with 12 catches which includes Bryan Tamul of Saint Raphael Academy, Lincoln’s Kevin Carter and Tamul’s teammate Rick Smith. Houle leads with 271 yards, five touchdowns and 20.8 yards/reception, while Tamul and Helmut McIntosh are tied for the longest reception – 71 yards.
