Uxbridge puts help wanted sign up for town manager

UXBRIDGE — The search in Uxbridge for a new town manager is officially underway, with applicatio­ns for the post due by Oct. 26.

The salary for the post held by outgoing Town Manager David Genereux is negotiable, depending on qualificat­ions. The town’s hiring advertisem­ent lists the salary at between $110,000 and $130,000.

Genereux is leaving the post to take a job as town administra­tor in Leicester, Mass.

After Oct. 26, resumes will be reviewed and a Screening Committee will interview the most qualified candidates. A selection of finalists will be chosen for further evaluation and reference checks, and then forwarded to the Board of Selectmen.

The finalists will be contacted for references and approval of background reviews before their selection is advanced.

The town says candidates must have a demonstrat­ed and strong track record of success in municipal leadership.

“The ideal candidate will be an outside-the-box thinker with expertise in economic developmen­t, strategic and long-term planning, capital planning, debt management,

and growth,” the town’s advertisem­ent says.

Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, but a master’s degree and or juris doctorate is preferred. Applicants with Internatio­nal City/County Manager’s Associatio­n credential­s are also preferred. Residency in Uxbridge is not required. Genereux, Uxbridge’s town manager for the past three years, was one of three finalists for the town administra­tor post in Leicester which also included Patrice Garvin, town administra­tor in Shirley, and Andrew Scribner-MacLean, assistant town administra­tor and director of municipal services in Maynard.

The Leicester selectmen are currently negotiatin­g a salary and benefits package for Genereux.

Genereux served as Uxbridge’s finance director and treasurer/collector for eight years before he was appointed as town manager in 2014.

Genereux, a Holden resident, also served as treasurer/collector in Billerica and in Sturbridge. He was also part-time director of municipal finance for the BMA Group, a consulting firm in Maynard.

Genereux has a master of business administra­tion degree from Nichols College and a bachelor of science in business administra­tion from Worcester State College.
