Hien 3-pointer secures home win

-

LINCOLN – Randall Hien only made one shot Tuesday night against Paul Cuffee, but it turned out to be the biggest shot of the night for the Lincoln boys basketball team.

With the Division III contest tied in the final minute, Hien connected on a 3- pointer to lift the Lions to a 46- 43 victory over the Navigators at the Lion’s Den.

“Any win’s a good win, especially with a team like this one that doesn’t have much varsity experience,” Lincoln coach Kent Crooks said. “This is one of those wins, though, that was a little too close.”

Lincoln ( 5- 3 Division III- Central) received a game- high 22 points from Josh Jahnz, while Cody Anter chipped in with nine points. The Lions are back in action Friday at 5: 15 p. m. in Bristol against Mt. Hope.

BALANCE KEY FOR BRONCOS IN HOME VICTORY

BURRILLVILLE – Burrillville coach Kevin Randall has loved watching senior guard Dom Esposito explode for 25 points a game over the last three games, but he was heartened by the offensive balance he saw Tuesday night when Esposito ran into foul trouble against Scituate.

The senior scored a team- high 13 points, while Sam Clifford add- ed 11 and junior guard Jake Gelinas hit three 3- pointers in a 56- 38 IIINorth victory over the Spartans at the Broncodome.

“We had other guys step up tonight when Dom was in foul trouble,” Randall said. “It’s going to be a well- balanced team that wins [ III- North]. Scituate is a very good offensive team, so to hold them under 40 points in both games this season says something about the way we’re starting to play defense.”

Burrillville ( 5- 2 Division IIINorth) led by 12 points at halftime. The Broncos are back in action tonight when they head to Providence to battle Paul Cuffee in a crossover game.
