Northmen rout Times2

-

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Even though the North Smithfield baseball team was on the road on its home field, the undefeated Northmen had no trouble with Times2 Academy, as Quinn Parent allowed one hit and one unearned run in a 12-1 five-inning victory Tuesday afternoon.

The Northmen scored twice in the first and never looked back. Junior Michael deRonde was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while senior catcher Devin Albino had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Senior Adam Blakemore chipped in with three runs and three RBIs.

North Smithfield (12-0 Division III) will likely send Blakemore to mound this afternoon when Hope visits for an important contest.

GONFRADE THROWS GEM

EXETER — Mount St. Charles junior pitcher Alex Gonfrade delivered the best performance of his career, as he struck out five batters and allowed just four hits and a run in the Mounties’ 2-1 Division II win over Exeter-West Greenwich at Wawaloam Field Tuesday afternoon.

“His off-speed stuff was working and his curveball was hitting the corners,” Mount coach Paul Jacques said. “He was also able to throw fastball by them in different counts.”

The Mounties trailed by a run going into the top of the fifth inning, but Bryan Testa singled and came in to score on a single by catcher Trey Bourque. Testa also played a part in the game-winning run in the sixth. After Tim Kenney singled, Brendan Donahue pinch ran and moved to third on an error after a sacrifice bunt by Gonfrade. Testa scored Donahue with a sacrifice fly that was dropped in right.

Mount St. Charles (7-6 Division II) sends Kenney to the mound tomorrow afternoon at Barrington.
