Mount to host Northern Division playoff Monday

BURRILLVILLE — The Mount St. Charles golf team secured home-course advantage for Monday afternoon’s Northern Division playoff thanks to Thursday afternoon’s 157-164 victory over Lincoln and a 157-196 victory over Ponaganset at Country View.
Mount St. Charles (10-4 Northern Division) finished tied with Cumberland for second place in the division, but the Clippers posted a onestroke aggregate win over the Mounties in their two meetings to earn automatic qualification to the state tournament at Cranston Country Club.
Monday’s meet at Country View will be between the Mounties, the fourth-place Lions and fifth-place Smithfield. The No. 1 golfers are expected to tee off at 2:30.
Thursday, junior Alex Neidzwiadek and sophomore Ben Ellis shared medalist honors with matching 38s for the Mounties. Junior Daisy Cao shot a 40 and Alex Dumas pitched in with a 41.
Lincoln, which would’ve hosted the playoff at Kirkbrae with a win Thursday, earned a split thanks to 40s from Tim Cullen and Matt Pierce. Jack Lowrey shot a 41 and Nate Kumar chipped in with a 43.
