MOUNTIES SWEEP
WOONSOCKET — Even though the Mount St. Charles softball team was down a couple of starters, the Mounties still had no trouble sweeping aside visiting La Salle, 25-13, 25-18, 25-12, in a Division I contest Thursday night.
The Mounties received 14 assists and five kills from All-State senior setter/right-side hitter Brett Gould, while senior outside hitter Nate Asstafan also delivered a team-high eight kills and five digs. Coach Josh D’Abate was also quick to praise the play of Gary Kalmer and Joe Lynch, who stepped into starting spots for the first time this season.
“We just wanted to see consistency,” said D’Abate, who team started a four-match homestand with Thursday’s win. “We were short a couple of starters tonight, so we wanted to see consistency out of the guys we put in the lineup.”
Mount St. Charles (11-1 Division I) hosts North Kingstown Wednesday night before Coventry comes to town Friday night for a first-place showdown.
