City Councilman Richard Fagnant to seek re-election

-

WOONSOCKET – Councilman Richard J. Fagnant has announced his intentions to run for re-election as a Woonsocket city councilman.

“I’ve worked very hard for the people of Woonsocket. I look forward to building upon what I have accomplished for the citizens and taxpayers of Woonsocket,” said Fagnant in a statement released this week.

“I’m particularly proud of supporting legislation that stopped Invenergy from purchasing our precious water, selecting the vendor for the new water treatment plant, the middle school project, a second year in a row giving tax relief to residential and commercial tax payers, providing the senior center with much-needed funding, enacting an ordinance to control the hiring of outside legal counsel, enacting a zoning amendment to allow one inoperable disabled or unregistered car on lots, and for an amendment pertaining to tobacco products and sales to our youth,” he said.

Married 42 years to Patricia A. Fagnant, the councilman has been a homeowner and taxpayer for 40 years, and a business owner for 23 years (Key Decorated Apparel located in Woonsocket). Fagnant is also a former member of the zoning board of review. He served seven years with the RI Army National Guard and was a financial advisor with Citi Group for seven years. Fagnant said he is no stranger to making long-term commitments.

“Woonsocket needs strong leaders who comes to the table with ideas, not ideology,” he said. “I look forward to being an independent voice on the council, and will represent our entire city, including our youth, our seniors, our diverse ethnic communities and neighborhoods all over this great city.

As a resident of Woonsocket for 66 years, Fagnant said being born in this city has been key to his success in life, and it is time for him to continue the path he started in 2016 when he was first elected as a Woonsocket City Councilman.

“I care deeply and passionately about my community,” he said. “I consider serving on the council not as politics, but as a public service. I want to do all I can to contribute to preserving all that’s great about Woonsocket, and to making it even better place to live, work and raise a family in the future.”

Fagnant emphasized that he is not an insider, holds no affiliation with special interest groups active in city politics, nor is he on anyone’s “team.”

“I view that as an asset,” he said. “I have always been an independent voice, and I will continue to bring that independence to the City Council when re-elected, and work full time as your councilman.

“I am lucky enough now to be in a position where I can devote more of my time and energy to my community,” he said. My roots are here in Woonsocket due to the fact that my family chooses to live in Woonsocket and I want to make sure it remains a good choice for my children and my grandchildren.”
