Mercymount Country Day appoints new principal
CUMBERLAND – Mercymount Country Day School has announced a new principal for the 2018-2019 academic year. Susan Morrissey has been named principal by the school Board of Trustees and ratified by MESA (Mercy Education System of America).
Mrs. Morrissey comes to Mercymount with well over 20 years of experience leading independent schools. Most recently, she worked in the Silicon Valley, leading a small Catholic school to recognition as one of the most innovative in the country, according to NCEA’s Momentum magazine. Known for her work in bringing math, science, engineering and coding to new heights with creative program design and teacher development, Mrs. Morrissey is pleased to join the faculty and staff at Mercymount Country Day School.
With warmth, humor and a deep sense of purpose in offering the most competitive education for students, Mrs. Morrissey is keen on building a learning community that embraces both best practices in education and in character development.
With the faculty, the board and the Sisters of Mercy, Mrs. Morrissey is confident that Mercymount will be able to challenge the strongest students in the region while helping them to develop the care, empathy and grace for which the Mercy tradition is known.
Brian Lynch, chairman of the Board of Trustees, states “It was clear to the Board of Trustees early on in the hiring process that Susan had the experience and energy level we felt was needed for this exciting and rewarding position. We look forward to working with Susan and anticipate a great future for Mercymount.”
