October events for children at the Blackstone Library

-

Werewolves are howling, witches are flying, the dead are rising ...it must be Halloween time. Read on to find out about some bewitching programs the Blackstone Public Library will be offering to help those of all ages get into the Halloween spirit.

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., decorate a “spooktacular” sugar cookie with frosting, sprinkles, candy corn and more. No registration required (sorry, dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated). Appropriate for all ages.

The 19th annual “Nightmares in the Library” Halloween Party will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. All ghouls and witches are invited. This famous Hal- loween party, which is strictly for ages 3 to 10, will include making frightfully fun crafts, snacking on creepy-crawly treats and, of course, listening to some scary (and not so scary) stories.

‘Petrifying’ pepperoni and ‘bone-chilling’ cheese pizza will also be served (sorry, dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated).

There will be a costume parade and prize giveaway as well. At the end of the night, everyone will receive special Halloween treat bags. Don’t forget to come in costume.

Sign-ups are currently ongoing. Because this is a ticketed event, registration is accepted in person only. In addition, the child’s parent or guardian must have a valid Massachusetts library card in good standing.

What would Halloween be without some chilling tales? On Monday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m., Fall River youth librarian David Mello will present the “Tales Best Told in the Dark” – a fast-paced, spooky storytelling event that uses shadow puppets, masks, songs and more. Appropriate for ages 5 and up – not advised for those who scare easily. Sign-ups are currently ongoing. Funded by the Friends of the Blackstone Library. For more information, call 508-883-1931.
