1956 Pictured is the Saint Raphael Academy cross-country

squad known as “the team without a coach” that finished second in the state meet and now prepares for the New England championships to be held at Colby College. The SRA harriers are captain Vin McAloon, Tom Cahir, Ted Foley, Jack Quinn, Norm Dubuc, Alex Jeffrey, Robert Brennan, Dave Dubuc, Larry Walinski, Bill Lefebvre and Ed Zuromski. Foley and Cahir, who was a second team All-State choice last year and recently set a new record for the Slater Park course, have been the pacesetters for the Saints this season.

1966 The Pawtucket Recreation soccer team scored a 5-0 shut

out over the Providence Golden Arrows in a preliminary game to the Brown-Cornell Ivy League contest at Aldrich-Dexter Field to remain unbeaten (13-0) in the Brown Pee Wee Soccer League. Jeff Calista tallied the first goal and Manny Vincent notched the second, both in the first half. Gordon Hastie produced a hat trick with three consecutive goals in the second half for the locals.

1976 Limping to and from the huddle but running like an All

Stater in between, Mike Feeley galloped 23 times for 253 yards and two touchdowns to spark Tolman to an 18-0 shutout over cross-town rival Pawtucket West. “Sure it hurts (referring to Feeley’s injured leg),’ said Tiger coach Gig Pariseau. “But you forget about it in a game. You put your mind to it and forget that you’re hurt. You remember the pain afterward, not when you’re playing.” Feeley tallied on a 76-yard scamper and a 37-yard jaunt and QB Jim Pollock dove over from two yards out for the other Tolman score, while Ranger QB Bob Stewart connected on eight of 19 passes for 162 yards.
