Museum plans holiday open house

WOONSOCKET – The Rhode Island Historical Society invites the community to visit the Museum of Work & Culture on Saturday, Dec. 1, 1-5 p.m., for the organizati­on’s annual Holiday Open House, offered as part of Woonsocket’s Main Street Holiday Stroll. The day will feature a variety of holiday-themed activities for adults and children alike.

At 10:30 a.m., visitors can join Anne Jalette as she leads a tabletop boxwood tree decorating activity. Pre-registrati­on is required for this activity, and trees and all decoration­s will be provided for an advance fee of $25. Space is limited to 20 participan­ts. Beginning at 1pm, the public is welcome to take part in an afternoon of free activities. This includes Child’s Play: A Brief History of the Children of New England at 1pm and 3pm by Geralyn Ducady, Director of the Newell D. Goff Center for Education & Public Programs, who will lead guests through the history of children’s play from colonial New England through the present day with her talk. She will also have some toys on hand for attendees to try. There will be a performanc­e by the The Wheeler School Concert Handbell Ringers at 2 p.m.

Visitors are also encouraged to decorate cookies from Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery, help Santa’s elves build and test toys in their workshop, write letters to Santa, and participat­e in holiday storytime.
