1950

Saint Raphael Academy first-year hoop coach Bob Condon, who succeeded Jim Donaldson, has three veterans returning in Paul Lyons, Bob Hauser and Larry Emidy. Condon stated there are seven other promising candidates that are battling for starting berths that include forwards Bill Kennedy and Joe Dragon, center Jim Heatherton and guards John Murphy, George Agostini, Roy Guarino and Ray Marcil. The Saints will have a tall team with Emidy and Bob Quinlan at 6-foot-5, Eugene Trembly at 6-2 and Heatherton and Walter Campbell at just six-feet.

1960

The Darlington Braves, which captured league titles in 1955 and 1956, took home another R. I. Pre-Teen Football League championship this year with a record of 9-0-1 outscoring their opponents 282 to six. The Braves had the top three scorers in the league in fullback Johnny Pappas, halfback Allen Addison and quarterback Jackie Valentine. Pappas tallied 83 points, Addison 72, followed by Valentine with 45.

1970

QB Larry Caswell threw touchdown aerials of five yards to Bob Brooks and 15 yards to Mike Smith as the Hitching Post of Pawtucket defeated the White Eagles of Woonsocket 19-7 for the playoff championship in the Pawtucket Recreation Department Touch Football League at Elgasco Field. Denny Lucier intercepted a pass in his own end zone and raced 105 yards for the champs’ other TD. Gerry Gaudreau and Don Suggs led a strong Hitching Post defense that held the White Eagles scoreless until the losers tallied on a 25-yard pass from Bill Motte to Paul Sweetman in the final minutes.
