WOONSOCKET — Organizers of the Milk Fund Beer & Dynamite Fundraiser held Dec. 7 at Cercle Laurier made a special visit to WOON Radio Tuesday to present a check for $3,020 to Milk Fund Chairwoman Lisa Carcifero.

It was a huge boost to the 87th Annual Milk Fund Appeal, which as of Wednesday stands at $12,197.

Joining fundraiser co-Chairman Gary Lapierre and Milk Fund supporter Katrina Lapierre for the check presentation were Paul Lussier, president of Cercle Laurier; vice president Steve Aucoin; and kitchen Manager Paul Beaulieu.

Lapierre, a longtime contributor to Milk Fund activities, is also co-chair with Bill

n Schneck on the paper Milk Bottle campaign. He had put together the Milk Fund sport auction nights at Gator’s Pub in North Smithfield in the past.

Last Friday’s beer and dynamite even featured lots of entertainment and raffles and raised $3,020, which was presented in check form to Carcifero on Wednesday.

The items raffled at the event included two sports team-themed corn hole game catch boards, gift certificates to a list of local restaurants, four flex-tickets to the P-Bruins, a set of Stadium Theatre show tickets, and $300 worth of Massachusetts Lottery scratch tickets.

“It was a great night with an excellent turnout,” Lapierre said.

Soup for Supper, the next major fundraiser for the Milk Fund, will be held Dec. 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Millrace Kitchen, a NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley special initiative at 40 South Main St.. For for $15 per person, Bugg’s Bugg’d Out Barbecue, Grumpy’s Restaurant and local chef Michael Heroux will be serving up a buffet of soups and other sundry items with all proceeds benefiting the Milk Fund.

Meanwhile, the WOON Radio Auction benefiting the Milk Fund appears headed toward another big year of support for Woonsocket’s local charity helping families in need.

The auction is held Monday through Friday, 8 to 9 a.m., and on Saturdays on Romeo Berthiaume’s Saturday Show from 6 to 9 a.m.

The longtime format of the auction has WOON general manager Dave Richards and his helpers offering the selected items for the day’s bidding and then pro- gram listeners interested in a particular item calling a bid into the phone desk. All of the goods and services auctioned are donated from people and businesses in the community.

The auction runs right through Christmas Eve.

For more information on contributing to the auction call WOON 1240 AM at 401-762-1240.

The Milk Fund founded in 1932 during the Great Depression by the Woonsocket Call and the Woonsocket Child and Family Service, now Community Care Alliance, seeks to provide local families and seniors in need with a steady supply of milk through the course of the year. The Milk Fund’s assistance program is managed by the Community Care Alliance and distributed through L’il General stores.
