1950 The Pawtucket Boys’ Club Grads dropped a thrilling 65
62 decision to a highly-touted Newport Hiberian quintet before a crowd of 310 partisan fans that stood and roared through a hectic final period. Tommy Whipple garnered game-high laurels for the Grads with 19 points, Bob Kaveny, shooting set shots brilliantly, swished 17 and George Duffy chipped in with 11 points. Pawtucket played without its ace, Mike Webb, who was injured in a church league game last night.
1960 Pawtucket West hoop coach Bill Rutledge has only 5-10
junior Leo Paquette left from last season’s regulars. Two of Rutledge’s starting five have fairly good size provided by 6-2 Ted Kacharo and 6-0 Gus Coelho with Paquette and 5-8 Henry Levin as the other sure starters. The final regular will come from 5-10 Denny Lima, 5-10 Sid Harriet and 6-3 Bob Erickson, a senior taking his first crack at basketball. 5-9 Ray Durreault and 6-2 Charlie Trimbach are other possibilities.
1970 Senior forward Ed Broadley torched the twines for 34
points to lead undefeated Saint Raphael Academy to a 7258 victory over North Providence for its third straight non-league win. Broadley tallied 10 of his points in the opening period, added nine more in the second stanza and netted 11 after halftime as the Saints built a comfortable 18-point third quarter lead. Rich Bonin and Dave Denelle supported Broadley’s fine performance with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
