Clippers, Novans, Saints sweep meets
PROVIDENCE — Amazingly, Cumberland High swept the top three places in nine of the 13 events on the indoor program to sail to victories over Central Falls (9415), Shea (95-14) and Blackstone Valley Prep (109-0) in its Northern Division season debut at the Providence Career & Technical Academy fieldhouse on Monday night.
Junior Noah Kell paced the Clippers (30) will triumphs in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.19), high jump (5-2) and long jump (17-2 ½).
The Warriors (2-1) managed respective wins over Shea (35-24) and the Pride (410), thanks in part to senior Kevin Bujan’s firsts in the 300 (40.99) and 4 x 200 relay (1:41.59) and third in the 55 dash.
Woonsocket sophomore standout thrower Logan Coles nailed down easy victories in the shot put (47-7)
and 25-pound weight (65-7) to help catapult the Villa Novans to a trio of Northern Division decisions over North Smithfield (66-40), Mount St. Charles (74-35) and Tolman (95-7) on Monday.
Other WHS victors included senior Emmanuel Gomes in the 55 hurdles (8.06), classmate Hezekiah Adeyeye in the 300 (37.05) and fellow senior Nick Iarussi in the high jump (5-10).
For the Northmen, senior Jarrod Dube took hoe the 1,500 (4:41.43); and 1,000 (2:57.29).
Like the Clippers and Novans, St. Raphael Academy produced simplistic victories at the same site on the same evening. It coasted to a 66-30 verdict over Lincoln and a 7313 blowout of Ponaganset.
Junior Nasavell Medeiros claimed the 3,000 (9:24.47) and 1,000 (2:46.78) for the 2-0 Saints, while sophomore Darius Kipyego also earned double-winner status in the 1,500 (4:25.84) and 600 (1:22.16).
For the Lions, who split its decisions, junior Kyle Moison reigned in the shot put (50-6) and weight toss (62-6 ¾).
