1970 Gary Rabe, a 6-foot-1 senior forward who entered the

game with a 21.8 scoring average, fired in 39 points as Tolman opened its Class A East Division campaign with a 70-55 triumph over Cumberland. Dan Duarte and Paul Rankowitz notched 12 points apiece for the Tigers who improved to 6-1 overall. Steve Lukasiewic­z canned 12 points and Jim Healy 11 for the Clippers who slipped to a 3-5 slate.

1980 Pam Pontbriand netted eight of her game-high 21 points

in the second quarter as Lincoln outscored Scituate 20-6 in the period en route to 62-37 romp over the Spartans in an opening round tilt in the Burrillvil­le Holiday Basketball Tournament. Ellen Boyle and Michelle Roy added 14 points apiece for the Lions, now 3-2 overall. “Offensivel­y, we played really well tonight. We were getting the ball inside to Pam,” said Lincoln coach Kathy Tiberii.

1990 Coach Vern Gaskin’s Class C Davies Vocational quintet

continued assaulting Class A teams when the Patriots outran Mt. Pleasant 94-91 in a non-league road game. Calvin Bridges led Davies with 35 points and 15 rebounds, Julio Jaiman sank 22 points, Doug Samuel hooped 15 and Ernest Shelton 14. Samuel added 15 caroms and Paul Barboza dished out 15 assists. Davies had 18 team steals and was perfect on six free throws in the final 1:30 to seal the win.
