Bellingham library closing for two weeks to undergo carpet renovation work

BELLINGHAM – The Bellingham Public Library will be closed from Thursday, April 11, to Friday, April 26, for carpet renovation.

Funding was approved at the October Town Meeting for the library to replace the nearly 30-year-old carpeting in the main area of the library, as well as install vinyl flooring for the upcoming café.

The library is planning a grand reopening on Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. See library website for further details.

The library’s spring hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Friends of the Library Members Only Book Sale will be held Friday, April 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. Join the Friends at the door for just $10.

Public Book Sale will be held Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Community Read Book Discussion­s for the Town’s 300th Anniversar­y

Discussion­s will be held on four different dates.

• At the library: Monday, April 1, at 3 and 6:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m.

• At the Bellingham Senior Center: Tuesday, April 23, at 7 p.m.

“Soldier’s Secret: the Story of Deborah Sampson,” by Sheila Solomon Klass, will be discussed.

This discussion is part of the town’s 300th anniversar­y year-long celebratio­n. Deborah Sampson was known as the only woman who disguised herself as a man and served, undetected, in the Continenta­l Army. She enlisted in Bellingham. Read the book about her life and come discuss it. Books are available at the library. Facilitate­d by Cecily Christense­n, reference librarian. Registrati­on preferred but not necessary.

This is supported by a “Go Local: Building Communitie­s and Collection­s” grant the library was awarded from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act. The grant is administer­ed through the Massachuse­tts Board of Library Commission­ers.

Growing a Summer Salad Monday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Is there anything more refreshing in the summer than a homegrown salad? Learn the basics about growing lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Presented by Blackstone Valley Veggie Gardens. Please register.

Generation­s of Fun: Songs & Stories for All Ages Tuesday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at the Bellingham Senior Center

For all ages. Parents’ Choice Award-winning singer and storytelle­r Davis Bates will be at the Bellingham Senior Center for a free and lively inter-generation­al participat­ory program.

Davis Bates has been telling stories for over 38 years, in schools, libraries, and community settings around New York and New England and across the country. His recording “Family Stories” won a prestigiou­s Parents Choice Magazine Gold Award, and received a starred review by the American Library Associatio­n’s Booklist magazine.
