WOONSOCKET — Mount St. Charles junior pitcher Marissa Tessier did everything she could to keep her team in Tuesday afternoon’s Division I clash with North Kingstown.

The lefty went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored at the plate, and she pitched well enough to give the Mounties a chance to win. But the Skippers took advantage of six errors – and a few mental mistakes – to score six unearned runs in an 11-4 win over Mount.

Mount St. Charles (3-11 Division I) currently holds the final playoff spot with just four games left in the regular season. The Mounties finish the week with a game against talented Cranston West tomorrow afternoon at Brayton Field before finishing the season with three games next week against teams they’ve already played.

North Kingstown (8-7 Division I) has now alternated between wins and losses over its last five games. The 2016 and 2017 state champions are back in action this afternoon when one-win Barrington comes to Ryan Field. Tuesday, Meghan Gormley had two hits and two RBIs, Kate Haberle scored three runs and pitcher Lexi Fagnant went six innings and allowed just two earned runs to get the win.

Tessier didn’t allow a hit in the opening inning, but as was the case throughout the game, the Mounties were their own worst enemy. A walk to Haberle and three wild pitches allowed the Skippers to take a lead they would never relinquish. The lefty finished the day with three strikeouts after striking out two in the inning.

Fagnant doubled in the third inning to help increase NK’s advantage to 2-0, and the visitors scored a run in the fourth inning to build a 3-0 lead. Mount committed two errors in the fifth inning, allowing Fagnant and Emily Tow to score.

The Mounties answered in their half of the fifth. First, sophomore infielder Callie Thibault worked a oneout walk and Bella Nadeau followed with a walk. After a strikeout, Tori Young (2-for-3) worked a walk to load the bases for Tessier. The junior laced a single up the middle to score Thibault and Nadeau.

NK scored twice in the sixth inning and then Gormley delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning to build an 11-2 advantage. The Mounties scored twice in the seventh. First, Tessier singled in Nadeau and then senior third baseman Talia Williams hit a sharply lined single to right field to score the junior. Williams finished the game at first after Kaylie Leclair flew out to end the game.
